Often we take our water for granted. Providing safe drinking water is a very intricate business that takes a dedicated staff of professionals to maintain the system throughout the year.

The City of Fortuna provides water to approximately 11,909 individuals in our service area. The Water Division is responsible for providing a safe reliable water supply for domestic use and fire protection. The City operates a water system which produces over 500 million gallons per year serving approximately 5300 customers. Approximately 42 miles of water lines are also maintained along with 5 reservoirs, 8 pump stations, 5 well fields and a treatment facility

The Water Division is also responsible for:
  • Distribution system flushing
  • Installation and maintenance of water meters
  • Distribution system maintenance and repairs
  • Hydrant flow testing and maintenance
  • Water/Sewer service calls

NEW Water Code Regulations Relating to Conservation

As per Sec. 864.5 of the California Water Code the City of Fortuna was required to identify and report no later than June 22, 2016, the conservation standard that the supplier will be required to meet. The City of Fortuna was also required to Identify and report no later than June 22, 2016, the data and underlying analysis relied upon by the supplier to determine the conservation standard reported pursuant to the Water Code subdivision including, but not limited to identification of each source of supply the supplier intends to rely on and the quantity of water available under that source of supply given the assumptions of this section. The City of Fortuna was required to certify, no later than June 22, 2016, that the conservation standard reported pursuant to the subdivision of the Water Code is based on the information and assumptions identified in the Water Code and beginning June 1, 2016, reduce its total potable water production by the percentage identified as its conservation standard each month, compared to the amount used in the same month in 2013. Finally The City met these deadlines and is required to post the data and underlying analysis relied upon  to determine the conservation standard reported pursuant to the Water Code to a publicly-accessible webpage. The links to this data are provided below. It should be noted that the State Water Board has not released its review of the self-certifications yet.
