100th Anniversary of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad
100th Anniversary of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad
Slide1_thumb.jpg

On Thursday, October 23, join the Fortuna Historical Commission and the Fortuna Depot Museum for a grand celebration of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad’s 100th birthday.  Exactly 100 years ago, on October 23, 1914, a crowd of thousands gathered at remote Cain Rock in Southern Humboldt to celebrate the completion of the railway connection between the San Francisco Bay Area and Humboldt Bay.

The President of the Northwestern Pacific drove a ceremonial golden spike into a redwood burl-wood railroad tie and the railroad was christened with California champagne.

Come to the Depot Museum to help celebrate the anniversary of the railroad that played such a major role in Humboldt County’s history.  The party begins at 7:00pm at the Depot Museum, 3 Park Street in Rohner Park.  Join us for champagne, cheese and birthday cake; enjoy music from the era and authentic historical film footage of the 1914 golden spike ceremony.  1914-era costume is encouraged!
