Duties and Responsibilities Animal Control Services bears the state-mandated responsibility for ensuring that all dogs in the city of Fortuna are licensed and have current rabies vaccinations. Dogs may be licensed for either one, two, or three years.
In addition to enforcement duties, Animal Control Officers are responsible for:
- Providing emergency medical care for stray animals that are seriously ill or injured
- Providing a listing of lost and found pets
- Responding to reports of animal neglect and abuse
- Tracking potentially dangerous animals that are at large within the City limits
