Telephone EnhancementsThe Fortuna Police Department has activated enhancements to the department’s telephone system in an effort to provide better service to callers while keeping department employees on task with their multiple and varied duties.
Fortuna Police Department’s communication center provides police and fire dispatch services to the City of Fortuna, police dispatch services to Rio Dell and Ferndale, with a combined population of approximately 15,000. The communication center routinely dispatches and monitors activities for a combined force of approximately 10 law enforcement personnel at any given time between the multiple agencies while fielding 911 and citizen contacts via telephone.
In addition to 911 for emergency calls, the new system allows citizens the opportunity to immediately speak with a dispatcher to report in-progress or immediate law enforcement response calls in less time. In addition the department has activated additional selection options for obtaining information regarding parking tickets, police record requests or dog licensing. Other selection options now available are public fingerprinting information including hours of availability and costs, Anonymous crime tip line and direct contact to the departments administration.
This enhancement provides citizens with faster access to various departments without spending time on hold, direct voice mail contact with officers, informational recordings and the ability to leave confidential and anonymous crime tips while keeping communication center employees more organized and on task with immediate calls for service and police unit management.
