Overview

VISION:

Under the leadership of Casey J. Day, Chief of Police, the Fortuna Police Department works diligently to accomplish the goal of providing the City of Fortuna with the highest level of police services. The Fortuna Police Department is committed to community oriented policing and to developing long lasting collaborative partnerships within citizens, businesses, schools, community leaders, and allied agencies. We seek to achieve that goal by designing, embracing and implementing a professional philosophy, which is rooted in community-based policing, that reduces crime, fear, and disorder, while ensuring adherence to the constitutional rights of all individuals.

The Fortuna Police Department has 27 full time employees who are committed to the overarching goal of providing the City of Fortuna with the highest level of police services and enhancing the quality of life within our community. The Fortuna Police Department is proactive in combating crime and utilizes modern crime prevention strategies to reduce crime and anti-social behavior. The Fortuna Police Department embraces the ideologies of criminal accountability and justice. The department is committed to principled policing and to serving the community while protecting the rights of all persons. Consistent with this commitment, the Department’s Vision, Mission and Core Values, in concert with the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and the Department’s Management Principles, reflect the guiding philosophy of the Fortuna Police Department

The heart of our Core Values, courage is the mental, moral, and physical strength ingrained in department personnel that sees them through the challenges of job related tasks and the mastery of fear, and to do what is right, to adhere to a higher standard of personal conduct, to lead by example, and to make tough decisions under stress and pressure. It is the inner strength that enables department personnel to take that extra step which may be needed to ensure a successful outcome.
