Animal Control

Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnimal Control Services bears the state-Happy Dog Facemandated responsibility for ensuring that all dogs in the City of Fortuna are licensed and have current rabies vaccinations. Dogs may be licensed for either one, two, or three years.

In addition to enforcement duties, Animal Control Officers are responsible for:

  • Responding and patrolling the City of Fortuna for strays or loose animals
  • Providing a listing of lost and found pets
  • Responding to reports of animal neglect and abuse
  • Maintaining the City of Fortuna dog licensing database

StaffThe Fortuna Animal Control Services operates out of the of the Police Department. The unit consists of Non-Sworn employees that receive specialty training in a variety of domestic and non-domestic animal control and management techniques.
