Solid Waste
City of Fortuna has been in a franchise agreement with Recology Eel River (formally known as Eel River Disposal) to provide refuse and recycling services within Fortuna city limits since the 1990’s. Recology Eel River is located at 965 Riverwalk Drive in Fortuna, CA.
Eel River Recology serves a population of 12,144 residing in Fortuna’s 4.9 square mile area. The collection of solid waste generated in Fortuna includes that from routes, debris boxes and dumpsters, as well as what is brought in from individual drop offs. Solid waste is picked up on a weekly schedule. In the year of 2018, Fortuna generated approximately 10,039 tons of solid waste.
Recology Eel River also provides curbside single stream recycling totes for customers to divert waste from going to a landfill, as well as green waste totes. The recycling and green waste totes alternate weeks for pick up by Recology Eel River.
