Safe Routes To School Projects

About the ProgramThe Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program aims to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from schools. The goal is to reverse the decline in children walking and bicycling to schools, increase kids' safety and reverse the alarming nationwide trend toward inactivity.

Projects

2015 Safe Routes to School Project
The 2015 SRTS Improvement Project focused on pedestrian, cyclist and traffic safety improvements along Ross Hill Road as well as in the neighborhoods surrounding Toddy Thomas Middle School, Redwood Preparatory Charter School and Ambrosini School. These improvements focused on adding clearly marked crosswalks, continuous sidewalks, and marked bike paths as well as improved signage and street painting for driver visibility.

This project is was completed in summer 2017.

More Information 

South Fortuna Elementary School Safe Routes to School ProjectThe South Fortuna Elementary School SRTS Project will focus on pedestrian, cyclist and traffic safety improvements in the immediate vicinity of South Fortuna Elementary School. These improvements will alter the traffic striping on Newburg Road, and improve pedestrian and cyclist facilities on Newburg Road as well as within the Lawndale Subdivision.

This project is currently in the design stage.
