How do I license my dog?
Animal licenses are issued Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by bringing your dog's rabies certificate to the Fortuna Police Department.
Is there a leash law in Fortuna?
Yes, 6.12.010 of the Fortuna Municipal Code states the following:
- It is unlawful for any person to cause or permit or allow any dog or dogs, owned, harbored, controlled, or kept by him to roam or run or stray away from the premises where the same is or are owned, harbored, or kept, at any time, except in the custody and control of the owner or some responsible person, thereunto by the owner duly authorized.
- In addition, all dogs shall be kept on a leash not to exceed eight feet in length in all areas of the incorporated city not on the owner’s premises.
- It shall be the duty of the animal control officer to impound any dog found running at large at any time contrary to the provisions of this section.
How many animals can I have?
Fortuna Municipal Code allows for a combination of a total of four dogs and cats. Refer to Fortuna Municipal Code Section: 17.54.060

How do I obtain a business License?
Complete the application. After approval by the Planning Division, the license will be issued by the Finance Department.
How are water and sewer bills calculated?

Can I pay my water and sewer bill with a credit card?
- You may pay your water and sewer bill with a credit card, in person at City Hall, over the telephone at (707) 725-7600, or through the online payment portal.

What does it mean when a job application deadline is open until filled?
Open until filled means that there is no application deadline. We will continue to accept applications until a qualified candidate is selected, at which time the job posting will be removed.

What should I do if my power is out?
The Fortuna Police Department is not contacted and does not receive any update information from PG&E during an outage.
To report a power outage or check on the status of an outage, please call Pacific Gas & Electric Company at (800) 743-5000. When reporitng an outage, you will need to call from your home phone if possible as PG&E's automated system will obtain your location information based on the the phone number you call from.
If your power is out, please don’t contact the Fortuna Police Department unless you have an emergency. In case of emergency call 911 or (707) 725-7550. During times of outages, the Fortuna Police Department is often handling emergency matters as a result of the outage and is not able to assist you with outage questions.
Different circumstances can result in varying outage times. Outages often occur during extreme weather conditions or as a result of major equipment failure.
We ask that you turn light switches to the off position and unplug equipment and appliances. This will help prevent a sudden high demand for power when the service is restored. However, you may want to leave one or two lights on so you will know when your service is back on.
What about my frozen and refrigerated foods?
A freezer and refrigerator will maintain foods for 12 to 48 hours or longer, depending on the room temperature and frequency of opening. Avoid opening your freezer or refrigerator during a power outage unless it's absolutely necessary.
What about cooking?
A camp stove, fireplace, gas stove, or a can of stero can be used for cooking during power outages. But BE CAREFUL! Be sure to provide adequate ventilation if you cook or heat with alternate fuel. Use camp stoves and charcoal grills OUTSIDE ONLY.

Can I shut my own water meter off for repairs?
If you need your water meter shut off for repairs please contact City Hall at (707) 725-7600 and a service call will be generated to shut off your meter. Please DO NOT shut your meter off yourself. Thank you for your cooperation.
Does the City of Fortuna add fluoride to the water?
No. Any fluoride that is present in the water supply is naturally occurring. You can find more information about the City of Fortuna's water supply in the Consumer Confidence Report.

If I cancel my River Lodge reservation, is my deposit refundable?
If an event is cancelled, there will be a $100 ($250 for wedding package) cancellation fee. The balance of the deposit will be refunded if the City is able to re-rent the facility on the same date(s).
Do I have to have insurance when I use the River Lodge?
Yes, the City of Fortuna requires insurance in order to hold events at our facilities. You can possibly extend your homeowners policy or purchase insurance through the City. Ask staff for help in meeting this requirement.
Can I serve alcohol at my event at the River Lodge?
Yes, with the proper license and insurance. Make sure River Lodge staff knows your intent and they can assist you.
For parties at the skating rink, do we have to skate or are other types of parties available?
Tell us what you have in mind and we will accommodate your requests as much as possible.
May we bring our own music for our party at the skating rink?
Yes, we would be happy to play your favorite CD's.
May we bring our own skates or rollerblades for our party at the skating rink?
Yes, provided staff approves them before use.
Sorry, but shoes with retractable wheels are not permitted.
May I reserve a larger block of time than the standard two hours for a party at the skating rink?
Yes, if we are able to accommodate your desired time. An additional fee will apply. Arrangements for extra time must be made at the time of reservation process.
May we bring a pinata for our party at the skating rink?
Yes, but please let us know during the reservation process.

Sorry, there are no kitchen facilities in the Pavilion.
