Communications Center - Emergency Call 911

The Fortuna Police Department has a State of the Art Communications Center which is staffed 24 hours a day.

The Fortuna Police Department Communications Center is responsible for providing dispatching services to the Fortuna Police Department, Fortuna Fire Department, Rio Dell Police Department and Ferndale Police Department.

The City of Fortuna dispatchers answer all 911 calls originating from within the city limits of the City of Fortuna, City of Rio Dell and Ferndale.  The dispatchers are also responsible for providing officers with critical information from the following databases:

    • Department of Motor Vehicles (All states and several countries)
    • Stolen Vehicle System
    • Automated Firearms System
    • Automated Property System
    • Wanted Persons System
    • Missing and Unidentified Persons System
    • Restraining Order System
    • Sex and Arson Registration System
    • Armed and Prohibited Persons system
    • Department of Justice Criminal Offender Records Information System
    • Violent Gang and Terrorist Organizations System
    • California Supervised Release File

    Dispatchers also have the ability to communicate with other police departments over the radio via the California law Enforcement Mutual Aid Radio System (CLEMARS) and/or the National Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Radio System (NLEMARS) in the event of an intercity emergency or mutual aid situation.

    The 911 emergency telephone number provides direct access to police, fire, and emergency medical services. Call 911 to report situations that require an immediate response, such as a crime, a fire, or a medical emergency. Do not call 911 for road/travel and severe weather information, power failures, car breakdowns, or legal advice. All non-emergency calls may be directed to 707-725-7550


    When you call 911 it is important to stay on the telephone. Do not hang up until the 911 operator advises you to do so.

    Be prepared to give the following information:

    • The phone number you are calling from
    • The address where you are located
    • The nature of the problem

    When dialing 911, it is important to give the above information.

    All dispatch terminals are also equipped to communicate with teletypewriters.

    When dialing 911 from any telephone the police dispatcher may have access to the following information:

    • The phone number you are calling from
    • The residence name or business name
    • The address the call is being made from
