On December 1^st the water and sewer bills in Fortuna will be processed per the winter billing structure.  During the winter months of December through May, the water and sewer bills will be based entirely on actual water consumption.  What this means is, the more water a customer uses, the more they will pay for sewer.  The winter water base rate allows for 300 cubic feet of consumption and the sewer base rate allows for 500 cubic feet.

During the summer months of June through November, in order to accommodate for irrigation, the sewer portion of a bill is based on the previous winter months’ total water usage average; what that means is, saving water during the winter months will lower a customer’s water/sewer bills year round.  In addition, the summer water base rate allows for 500 cubic feet of consumption while the sewer base rate stays the same at 500 cubic feet.

It is important to acknowledge that the City of Fortuna reads all meters after the 20th of each month.  Therefore, we recommended that customers stop excessive water use prior to November 20, 2021.
